Rechtiene Paces Women's Swimming & Diving at Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving wrapped up competition at the three-day WPI Gompei Invitational on Sunday. 

Senior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) paced the Bears with a seventh place performance in the 200 breaststroke as she posted a finals time of 2:34.57. For Rechtiene, it was her second top ten performance at the three-day meet as she also finished ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.23) on Saturday.

Rechtiene also recorded a career-best 100 time of 56.53 seconds during her leg of the 400 freestyle relay.

 Sophomore Sarah Biltcliffe (Fall River, Mass.) finished tenth in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 33.38 seconds, while junior Brooke Pacheco (Bristol, R.I.) placed eighth in the one-meter diving competition with an 11-dive score of 299.90 points.

Freshmen Amanda Brennen (Waltham, Mass.) posted a time of 5:14.23 in the 400 individual medley to place 22nd overall.  Sophomore Mikaela Ross (Andover, Mass.) finished 29th in the 100 backstroke (1:08.84), while freshman Katie Rogier (Hanover, Mass.) qualified for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Championships (NEISDA) with a time of 36.98 seconds in the 50 breaststroke.

Bridgewater placed 11th in the team standings.  Assumption College captured the team title followed by host WPI in second place and Roger Williams University in third.

"I am extremely pleased with our first half of the season performances," noted BSU skipper Mike Caruso. "It was great to see each of our swimmers post a season-best performance in either an individual or relay event this weekend."

"We really look to take our training up a notch and hope to get even faster for the NEISDA (New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association) Championships in February," added Caruso.

The Bears are off until after the New Year when they host Elms College on Wednesday, January 7th at 4:00 PM.
