BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University swimming and diving teams welcomed Division One Boston College to the Moriarty Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The visiting Eagles won both the men's and women's meets by scores of 156-108 and 170-108, respectively.

Freshman Charles Anderson (Avon, Conn.) paced the BSU men's squad with a pair of solid performances in the pool. Anderson placed third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.25 seconds and also posted a time of 1:01.26 in the 100 individual medley.  Sophomore Kyle Swardstrom (Brookline, Mass.) added a third place performance in the 100 backstroke (59.80), while classmate Brian Sheehan (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) placed second on both the one-meter (159.875 pts.) and three-meter (133.05 pts.) diving boards.

On the women's side, freshman Abbie Grant (Mansfield, Mass.) finished fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.28. Grant also recorded a solid time of 59.77 seconds in the 100 freestyle.  Junior Joanna Perron (Lowell, Mass.) placed fourth on both the one-meter (151.40 pts.) and three-meter (138.10 pts.) diving boards, while senior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) registered a  time of 1:14.59 in the 100 breaststroke.

"It was a tough meet in terms of level of competition but it was also fun to see what swimming and diving at the Division One level looks like," noted BSU head coach Mike Caruso.

The Bears head to Regis College next Saturday afternoon for a one o'clock meet with the Pride. BC travels to Loyola College on Halloween for the two-day Thomas Murphy Invitational.
