Bridgewater State College Swim Teams Fall to Bentley College

Jennifer Jackson Qualifies Provisionally for NCAA Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College swimming and diving teams dropped a meet against Division II affiliate Bentley College on Tuesday evening at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.  The men's team fell to the Falcons by a score of 180-39, while the BSC women dropped a 136-103 decision.

The story of the meet, however, was Bridgewater State junior diver Jennifer Jackson (Randolph, MA) who qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.  Jackson swept both the one-meter and three-diving events for the ninth straight meet.  Her score of 260.80 points on the three-meter board marked the second time this season that she eclipsed the 255 point total, which now provisionally qualifies her for the national championships which take place at the University of Houston from March 8th to March 10th.

On the men's side, Bentley posted first place finishes in all 13 events as the Falcons came away with the victory. Bentley had nine different swimmers win the nine individual swimming events.  The Falcons also swept the two relays, and junior Kyle Reese (Hamden, CT)  won both the one-meter (217.35 pts) and three-meter (249.20 pts) diving events.

Freshman Tony Tryonis (Knox, IN) was the top swimming highlight for the Falcons as he placed first in the 50 freestyle (:23.82) and also swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:49.81) and 400 freestyle relay (3:27.19) teams.

Junior Arden Brust (Newark, NY) registered a pair of first place finishes to lead the way for Bentley on the women's side.  Brust posted winning times of 11:03.84 in the 1000 freestyle and :57.64 in the 100 freestyle.

Joining Jackson as multiple event winners for the BSC women were sophomores Jillian Coache (New Bedford, MA) and Sarah Fuller (Palmer, MA), and freshman Bryn Morwick (Indianapolis, IN).  All three swam on the Bears' winning 400 freestyle relay team which posted a time of 3:52.55.  Coache also placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:01.19), while Fuller and Morwick came away with victories in the 50 freestyle (:27.46) and 500 freestyle (5:33.02) respectively.

The BSC swimming and diving teams are back in action on Thursday night as the Bears head to Babson College for a six o'clock meet with the Beavers.  Then on Saturday afternoon, the Bears wrap up their regular season meet schedule as they take on Bryant University at 1.
