Women's Soccer Falls to UMass Dartmouth in Overtime, 2-1

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Sophomore midfielder Sarah Vieira's (Dartmouth, Mass.) golden goal 8:50 into overtime lifted the UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night at Cressy Field.

The Corsairs improve to 2-9 on the season as they snapped a nine-game losing streak. The visiting Bears fall to 5-6 with the setback.

Vieira converted a crossing pass from fellow sophomore Jillian Prout (Dartmouth, Mass.) and tucked her first tally of the season into the right corner for the host Corsairs who overcame an early deficit.

BSU sophomore forward Madelyn Morin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had staked the visiting Bears to a 1-0 edge just 1:12 into the contest with an unassisted marker. The goal marked Morin's second of the season.

Senior midfielder Ella Rath (Pawcatuck, Conn.) evened matters for UMass Dartmouth in the 34th minute of action when she took a Prout pass and broke in for her fifth goal of the season, and that score held up until the extra session that ended with Vieira's heroics.

Junior Jaimee O'Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a three save effort for the Corsairs, who received a pair of team saves on the goal line in the opening half.

Senior netminder Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) recorded four stops in net in the setback for Bridgewater State, which held a 10-9 edge in total shots and a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth hosts Southern Maine in a Little East Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field beginning at 1:00 pm, while Bridgewater State entertains Wentworth in a non-league clash on Thursday afternoon in Bridgewater, Mass. that begins at 3:30 pm.
