Women's Soccer Drops 10-0 Decision to #20 MIT

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Eight different student-athletes scored as the visiting MIT women's soccer team blanked Bridgewater State University, 10-0, on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Engineers, who are ranked 20th nationally in all of Division III, improve to 2-1-1 on the season. The host Bears fall to 0-2.

Sophomore forwards Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) and Emily Larson (Ankeny, Iowa) each scored twice for MIT, while the Engineers also received goals from senior forward Montana Reilly (Los Angeles, Calif.), senior forward Allie Werner (Tyler, Texas), senior midfielder Emily Berzolla (Riverside, Conn.), sophomore midfielder Jessica Sonner (Naperville, Ill.), sophomore forward Anna Weinstein (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and junior defender Sarah Moseson (Morristown, N.J.).

Berzolla also finished with a pair of assists for the Engineers, while senior midfielder Sophia Struckman (Scottsdale, Ariz.) also dished out a pair of helpers and Sonner added an assist.

The Engineers outshot the Bears, 51-8 (26-1 on goal), and finished with a 13-2 edge in corner kick attempts.

BSU senior goalkeeper Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) made a season-high 14 saves in just under 62 minutes of action (61:55). Souza made two outstanding diving stops on back-to-back shots by Larson in the 33rd minute before Larson buried the third attempt.

Freshman netminder Ava Gillikin (Flemington, N.J.) and sophomore Haylee Niemann (Las Vegas, Nev.) combined for the shutout with Gillikin making one save and picking up her second win of the season.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Wheaton College on Wednesday afternoon for a four o'clock game with the Lyons. The Engineers head to Roger Williams University on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Hawks also at four.
