Women's Soccer Opens 2019 Campaign with 3-0 Setback to Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore forward Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Brandeis University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Wednesday night at Gordon Field.

Freshman forward Morgan Clark (West Orange, N.J.) also scored for the Judges who improve to 1-1 on the young season. The start of the games was delayed by 45 minutes due to lightning.

Brandeis held a decided 35-7 shot advantage for the game as well as an 11-1 edge in corner kick attempts.

Senior goalkeeper Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) made 13 saves in the setback for the Bears (0-1) who were playing in their season-opener. The BSU defense also cleared a ball off the line.

Brandeis senior netminder Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn.) turned aside three shots to record her first win of the season. Sophomore Rebecca Gold (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) played the final 9:17 and made one save.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon. The Judges travel to Johnson & Wales University for four o'clock match with the Wildcats, while the Bears entertain 20th-ranked MIT at 4:30.

Notes: It marked the second time that Souza has reached double-digits in saves for a game. Last season, she made a career-high 15 stops in a 2-0 loss to MIT.
