BOSTON, Mass. – Junior forward Alana Vincent (Taunton, Mass.) potted a pair of goals to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's soccer team to a 5-2 win over Wentworth on Thursday night at rainy Sweeney Field.
The Bears improve to 6-4-1 on the season, while the Leopards fall to 6-6-2.
Senior midfielder Nicole Simas (Dartmouth, Mass.), junior forward Tess Nagle (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior midfielder Kellsie Mitchell (Bristol, R.I.) also scored for Bridgewater State, while senior defender Caitlin Rowley (Lakeville, Mass.) and junior forward Emma Sanders (Seekonk, Mass.) each dished out a pair of assists. Nagle also added a helper.
The Leopards were first to strike in the eighth minute, as junior midfielder Jess Poratti (Essex Junction, Vt.) finished a through ball from classmate Alexis Stickelman (East Northport, N.Y.).
Vincent converted a crossing pass from freshman forward Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.) in the 14th minute to knot the score at 1-1.
Simas headed home the rebound of a Nagle shot in the 35th minute to put the Bears on top. Nagle closed out the first-half scoring with 2:12 remaining in the stanza as she knocked in a cross from Rowley.
Mitchell extended the BSU lead to 4-1 just 1:17 into the second half with Rowley and Sanders both picking up assists on the scoring strike.
Vincent's second goal of the night off Sanders' crossing pass put the game out of reach just 2:16 later.
Freshman midfielder Ashley Molnar (Northridge, Calif.) broke the second-half drought for Wentworth in the 58th minute, finishing off a free kick taken by senior defender Taylor Patti (Pittsfield, Mass.),
BSU junior goalkeeper Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) made four saves to record her sixth win of the season. Wentworth senior keeper Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) made four saves in the effort, while sophomore Allison Haynes (Shelton, Conn.) stopped five shots in second-half relief
Bridgewater finished with a 28-8 shot advantage as well as a 7-1 edge in corner kick attempts.
The Bears travel to Westfield State University on Saturday for a key noontime Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup with the Owls.
