Women's Soccer Blanked by Union, 3-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Union College women's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon.

The host Dutch improve to 2-0 on the season while the Bears fall to 0-2.

Junior forward Christine Hill (Woodbridge, Conn.) tallied a pair of goals and senior forward Katie Monahan (Ipswich, Mass.) notched a goal and an assist to pace Union. Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Hartsoe (Wallingford, Conn.) collected seven saves on the day to record the shutout.

Monahan gave the Dutch an early 1-0 lead as she scored off the rebound of a Linsey Giles' (Bedford, Mass.) header attempt in the 11th minute.

The score remained that way until the 69th minute when Hill scored on a breakaway off a feed from freshman Maya Stevenson. Hill converted another breakaway in the 90th minute to cap off the scoring with Monahan picking up the assist.

Though the game seemed to even out in terms of possession and shots on goal (Union 9, BSU 7), the Dutch capitalized on key opportunities to deliver the victory.

Sophomore forward Alana Vincent (Taunton, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with five shots including three on frame. Senior netminder Lauren DeSousa (Taunton, Mass.) made six saves in the setback.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday, September 5th at 7:00 PM. The Dutch host Plattsburgh State, while the Bears travel to Brandeis University.
