Lauren DeSousa Named MASCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior goalkeeper Lauren DeSousa has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

DeSousa went 1-0-1 on the week for the Bears with a shutout and 14 saves in 200 minutes of work. The Taunton, Massachusetts product also posted a 0.45 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.

DeSousa made seven saves in a 2-0 shutout victory over MASCAC rival Framingham State University this past weekend. She also turned aside seven shots earlier in the week in a 1-1 double overtime tie with UMass Dartmouth.

Through nine games this season, DeSousa is 3-2-4 with an impressive five solo shutouts and a 0.52 goals against average in over 870 minutes of work (870:15). She also has 45 saves to her credit and checks in with a .900 save percentage.

DeSousa currently leads the MASCAC in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts. She also ranks second in minutes played and is tied for fourth in wins.

In 27 games over her first two seasons with the Bears, DeSousa has produced a record of 13-9-5 with 12 solo shutouts and 141 saves. She has a career goals against average of 0.90 with a .849 save percentage. 

The BSU women's soccer team is currently 3-2-4 on the season and 2-0-1 in MASCAC play. The Bears host non-conference foe Roger Williams University on Wednesday night at seven.
