Hatfield's OT Winner Lifts Women's Soccer to 2-1 Win over Plymouth State

NEW HAMPTON, N.H. -- Junior forward Mackenzie Hatfield (Whitman, Mass.) tallied the game winning goal in overtime to lift the visiting Bridgewater State University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Plymouth State University on Saturday night in New Hampton, New Hampshire.

The Bears improve to 1-3 with their first win of the 2014 campaign, while the host Panthers slip to 1-2.

Hatfield scored the golden goal off an assist from freshman forward Courtney Pepin (Uxrbidge, Mass.) with less than two minutes remaining in the overtime period.

The Bears had taken a 1-0 lead into halftime on a goal by junior defender Carolyn Sessler (Plymouth, Mass.) in the 27th minute with classmate Bridget O'Leary (Whitman, Mass.) picking up the assist. For Sessler, the goal marked her first in a BSU uniform.

Freshman keeper Courtney Banzi (Plymouth, Mass.) made three saves to pick up her first collegiate win.

PSU senior midfielder Courtney Barker (Yarmouth, Maine) notched an unassisted tally with less than four minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime. Sophomore netminder Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, N.H.) turned aside 13 shots in the setback

Bridgewater held a 19-7 shot advantage for the game as well as a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Notes: With her goal, Hatfield tied Megan Williamson (2005-2008) for seveth place on the Bears' all-time scoring list. Hatfield now has 53 points in her career.
