All-MASCAC Women's Soccer Team Announced

2008 All-MASCAC Women's Soccer Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College senior forward Kaitlin Lamothe has been named as the 2008 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year and heads the league's all-conference squad in a vote taken of the conference's eight coaches.

A native of Wrentham, Mass., Lamothe established single-season records for BSC this fall as she currently has 22 goals and 52 points to date.  She is fourth all-time on the Bears' career scoring list with 76 points in just two seasons.

Joining Lamothe on the all-conference first team is fellow senior Julie Sullivan (Whitman, MA) and junior defender Yasmina Carvalho (Brockton, MA). Sullivan tallied six goals and four assists for a total of 16 points from her midfield position.  Carvalho anchored a BSC defensive unit that that helped the Bears post four shutouts as well as a 1.49 goals against average.

Head Coach Andrea O'Connor was selected by her peers as the 2008 MASCAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Bears to 10 regular season victories and a share of the league's regular season title. O'Connor also earned coach of the year honors back in 2001.

Senior Megan Williamson (Ludlow, MA) was the Bears' lone representative on the All-MASCAC Second Team.  Williamson finished the season with six goals and six assists for a total of 18 points.  She wraps up an outstanding four-year career at Bridgewater State as the program's seventh all-time leading scorer with 53 points.

Lamothe also earned All-MASCAC First Team honors a year ago.  Sullivan is making her second appearance on the all-conference team as she was a first team selection in 2006.  Same goes for Carvalho who was named to the All-MASCAC Second Team last season.  Williamson has been chosen to the second team in three of her four seasons at Bridgewater.

Seeded second in the MASCAC Tournament, the Bears knocked off third-seeded and defending MASCAC champions Worcester State College, 1-0, in the semifinals.  BSC will take on top-seeded Westfield State in the title game on Saturday at 6 PM in Westfield.
