Wrestling Competes at NEWA Futures Tournament

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Several members of the Bridgewater State University wrestling team competed at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament hosted by Trinity College on Sunday at the Ferris Athletic Center.

Freshman Jonathan Avery (Woburn, Mass.) went 3-2 out of the 133-pound weight class to lead the Bears as he tied for fifth place.

After a first round setback, Avery posted a 16-4 major decision over WPI's Christian Curll and then pinned (2:35) Halim Bourjeili of Castleton University. Following a 9-7 win over Jarred Tolotti of Springfield College, Avery lost by technical fall to Springfield's Jacques St. Jean in the consolation semifinals.

Sophomore Eric Lamore (Wethersfield, Conn.) posted a 2-2 record competing out of the 165-pound weight class including a win by fall (1:03) over Jason Alves of Western New England University.

Next weekend, the BSU wrestling team will compete at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional hosted by Johnson & Wales.
