Wrestling Places Ninth at RWU Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University wrestling team placed ninth at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday.

Freshman Ryan Higgins (Billerica, Mass.) paced the Bears with a third-place finish in the heavyweight class. Higgins went 5-1 at the tournament including a third-period pin (6:11) against Jose Diaz of Johnson & Wales and a medical forfeit victory over Adan Patsun of host Roger Williams in the third-place match. 

Senior 141-pounder Andrew Valdina (Dracut, Mass.), sophomore 157-pounder Devin Winn (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore 165-pounder Fox Maxwell (Wilmington, Mass.) each went 3-2 out of their respective weight classes. Winn finished with three falls on the day as he pinned each of his opponents from Norwich, Southern Maine and Johnson & Wales.

Higgins is now 7-1 on the season while Winn and Maxwell are both 5-2.

The BSU wrestling teams is back in action next Saturday as the Bears compete at the Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College.
