Oberlander Wins Pair of Bouts at NCAA DIII Northeast Regionals, Advances to Sunday

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Sophomore 184-pounder Henry Oberlander (Mansfield, Mass.) went 2-1 during the first day of the 2018 NCAA Division III Wrestling Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday at WPI.

Oberlander opened the meet with a 6-0 decision over John Davis of Trinity College before dropping a 4-2 decision to WPI's Dan Wensley in the quarterfinals. Oberlander bounced back with an 18-12 win over Nicholas Coppola of Rhode Island College to advance to the consolation quarterfinals.

Oberlander will take on Justin Montgomery of Plymouth State University in the consolation quarterfinals on Sunday morning.

Freshman 141-pounder Devin Winn (Brockton, Mass.), freshman 149-pounder Fox Maxwell (Wilmington, Mass.), senior 157-pounder Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.), freshman 197-pounder David MacNeil (Woburn, Mass.) and senior heavyweight Tom Arseneault (Lynnfield, Mass.) all went 1-2 in their respective weight classes at the regionals.

All three of Arseneault's bouts were decided by one point. He dropped a 1-0 decision to Santino Pelusi of New York University before earning a 6-5 decision over Plymouth State's Kevin Eli. Arseneault was eliminated by Mason Sangillo of Trinity College in an overtime tie-breaker, 2-1.

The Bears are in 16th place (8 pts.) in the team standings after day one of the two-day tournament. Johnson & Wales University leads the way with 81 points, while Wesleyan University and host WPI are tied for second with 54 points.
