Wrestling Places 15th at NEWA Dual Meet Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University wrestling team went 1-3 and finished in 15th place at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Tournament hosted by Johnson & Wales University on Sunday at the Providence Career & Technical Academy.

The Bears (3-5) lost to Springfield College, 39-6, Plymouth State University, 25-21, and Norwich University, 23-17, before posting a 38-14 victory over New England College in the 15th place match.

Freshman Devin Winn (Brockton, Mass.) went a perfect 3-0 at the tournament. He pinned (5:59) his opponent from Springfield and recorded a 14-4 major decision over his opponent from Norwich. Winn, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, wrapped up the day with an injury default victory in the Bears win over NEC. With the three wins, Winn improved his season record to 10-5.

Senior Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) and sophomore Henry Oberlander (Mansfield, Mass.) also went 3-1 at the tournament. Kerr earned a forfeit win and a pair of technical fall victories, while Oberlander posted a pair of decisions and pinned (0:14) his opponent from NEC. Oberlander is now 16-7 on the season, while Kerr's record stands at 15-7.

The BSU wrestling team is off until Saturday, January 27th when the Bears host the NEWA-Metro Duals.
