Wrestling Competes at NCAA DIII Northeast Regional Tournament

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team competed during the first day of the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Tournament held on Saturday at Roger Williams University.

Sophomore heavyweight Tom Arseneault (Lynnfield, Mass.) was BSU's top wrestler as he went 2-2 on the day.

Arseneault dropped a tough 2-1 decision via an overtime tie-breaker in his opening bout against Nicholas Scott of Castleton University. He did, however, bounce back with a 4-3 victory over Stephen Birganti of Norwich University and an 8-0 major decision win over Plymouth State's Alex Cesare.

Arseneault was eliminated from the tournament with a 2-0 setback to seventh-seeded Austin Shrewsbury of WPI.

The other BSU grapplers to record wins on the day were freshman Jason Sulinski (Dedham, Mass.) at the 133-pound weight class, junior Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) at 157 and freshman Henry Oberlander (Mansfield, Mass.) at 184.

Bridgewater State did not have a wrestler advance to the second and final day of competition on Sunday. The Bears would ultimately finish in 17th place in the team standings with 7.5 points.
