BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team posted a 1-2 record at the 2016 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) "Headlock for Hunger" Dual Meet Tournament held on Saturday at the Tinsley Center.
The 12th seeded Bears (1-8) lost to #5 Springfield College, 42-6, in the their opening match of the day. Bridgewater also dropped a 28-20 decision to #13 Trinity College, before recording their first dual meet victory over the season with a 44-12 win over #14 Daniel Webster College.
Junior 197-pounder Stephen Heaslip (Dedham, Mass.) went 2-0 on the day with a pin. Freshman Dylan Nuttall (Levittown, Mass.) posted a 2-1 mark out of the 125-pound weight class with a major decision and technical fall victory. Junior 157-pounder Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) also finished 2-1 on the day, while freshman heavyweight Tom Arseneault (Lynnfield, Mass.) won his only bout.
Two-time defending champion and top-seeded Roger Williams University captured their third straight tournament title and fourth overall with a 27-8 championship match victory over #2 seed Johnson & Wales University.
Senior 157-pounder Joey Gaccione of Johnson & Wales was selected as the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler.
