BRISTOL, R.I. -- Five Bridgewater State University freshman wrestlers competed at the non-scoring New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament hosted by Roger Williams University on Sunday.
Joshua Bryant (Shrewsbury, Mass.) posted a 2-2 record out of the 184-pound weight class. After a first round bye, Bryant dropped a 7-3 decision in the second round but battled back with a win by fall (2:26) over Elijah Webber of Norwich University, He then posted a 12-6 victory over Connor Darling of WPI to advance to the consolation semifinals where he lost to David Dubin of Springfield College.
Stephen Hogan (Attleboro, Mass.), competing out of the 157-pound weight class, also finished 2-2 on the day. After dropping an 8-7 decision in his opening round bout, Hogan decisioned teammate James Mulvey, 13-7. He then earned a medical forfeit victory before losing to Ryan Butler of host Roger Williams in the consolation semifinals.
George Delgado (Brockton, Mass.) went 1-2 with a first round pin (3:21) of Wesleyan's Zach Larabee. Mulvey at 157 and Tyler Budwey (Mansfield, Mass.) at 165 both finished 0-2 at the tournament.
