Jim Quinlan Named NEWA Wrestler of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior Jim Quinlan has been named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week for his impressive performance at the Roger Williams Invitational over the weekend.  Quinlan earned Outstanding Upper Weight Wrestler honors as he captured first place in the 184-pound weight class. 

The Bears posted a score of 139.0 points as they shared the tournament crown along with Rhode Island College.  The first place showing was the highest in program history at the RWU Invitational.  The Bears posted a second place finish at the invitational during the 2000-2001 season.

A native of Methuen, Massachusetts, Quinlan posted a 4-0 record at the tournament including a pair of pins and an 8-6 semifinal win over Southern Maine's Frank Koch after he was trailing in the match, 6-0.  In the championship match, Quinlan knocked off Dan Woods of Roger Williams by a score of 5-0.

With the four wins at the tournament, Quinlan is now tied for second place along with Craig Buckley (2001-2004) on the Bears' all-time wins list as he now has 110 for his career.  His two pins increases his school record total to 56.

As a team, Bridgewater State is the top ranked Division III team in the NEWA coaches poll.  The Bears received 11 out of a possible 14 first place votes in the latest poll.
