BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State College wrestling team tied for first place at the 2007 Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday in Bristol, Rhode Island. The Bears posted a score of 139.0 points as they shared the tournament crown along with Rhode Island College.

Senior captain Jim Quinlan (Methuen, MA) paced the Bears at the tournament as he captured the 184-pound title and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Upperweight Wrestler. Quinlan won the 184-pound bracket as he earned a 5-0 decision over RWU's Dan Woods in the championship match.

Also placing high for the Bears were third place finishers freshman John Scalise (Augusta, NJ) and sophomore Frank Cammisa (Danbury, CT). Scalise posted a 3-2 decision in the third place match of the 133-pound bracket, while Cammisa pinned Southern Maine's Mike Dumas in the third place match at 149.

Freshman 165-pounder Zach Bates (Leyden, MA) and senior heavyweight Tim Ferreira (Danbury, CT) also placed fourth in their respective weight classes.

The highest showing at the RWU Invitational for the BSC wrestling program prior to this season was a second place finish in 2000.

The Bears open their dual meet schedule on Wednesday night at home as they welcome Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) rival Southern Maine to Kelly Gymnasium. Match time is slated for 7 PM.
