Women's Lacrosse Posts 14-7 MASCAC Win over Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Junior attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) scored a game-high six goals to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday night at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The Bears improve to 9-4 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC, while the host Buccaneers fall to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Senior midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) added three goals for Bridgewater State, while sophomore midfielder Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) notched two goals and an assist and freshman attack Jacqueline DeLorey (Westwood, Mass.) checked in with a goal and a helper.

Freshman midfielder Lindsay Brown (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and senior defender Kerrin O'Leary (Millbury, Mass.) also scored for the Bears. Brown's tally marked her first collegiate goal.

Bridgewater State led 9-3 at the break and the Bears scored five of the first six goals of the second half to put the game out of reach. Mass. Maritime found the back of the net three times over the final 6 ½ minutes to account for the final tally of 14-7.

Junior attack Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass.) potted three goals to pace the Buccaneer offense, while sophomore midfielder Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) contributed two goals and two assists.

The Bears held a 29-20 shot advantage for the game and finished with a slight 12-11 edge in draw controls. MMA sophomore attack Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass.) led all players with seven controlled draws. Senior midfielder Lisa Moynihan (Norwood, Mass.) paced the Bears with six. Moynihan also caused four turnovers, while McDonough forced three.

Bridgewater State went 6-for-9 on free position attempts, while Mass. Maritime converted 3 of 5.

BSU junior netminder Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) made seven saves to record her ninth win of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Laura Kleber (Westport, Mass.) turned aside five shots in the setback for the Buccaneers.

The Bears host MASCAC foe Fitchburg State University on Saturday at noon, while the Buccaneers travel to MCLA on Friday night for a seven o'clock conference game with the Trailblazers.
