McDonough Leads Women's Lacrosse to 16-13 Win over Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, RI. – Junior attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) tallied three goals and four assists to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 16-13 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday afternoon at Scotts Miracle-Gro Field.

Eight different student-athletes scored for the Bears who improve to 5-1 on the season. Johnson & Wales falls to 6-3 with the setback as the Wildcats snapped a 21-game home winning streak.

With her seven-point effort, McDonough became the 14th student-athlete in BSU women's lacrosse history to reach the 200-point milestone as she now has 203 points (93G, 110A) in her career. McDonough also recorded a game-best ten draw controls.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) added three goals and three assists for the Bears, while senior midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) potted three goals. Junior attack Hayley White (Dracut, Mass.) and freshman attack Katherine Tracy (Marion, Mass.) checked in with two goals apiece with White also dishing out an assist.

Junior midfielder Maria Patane (Greenwich, N.Y.) paced Johnson & Wales with four goals and an assist, while senior midfielder Allison Pazienski (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) found the back of the net three times. Sophomore midfielder Marley Medina (South Hadley, Mass.) corralled seven draws and also scored two goals.

The Bears led 11-5 at the break and extended their advantage to 13-6 following back to back tallies by Hiller and Ettridge in the opening stages of the second half.

Johnson & Wales would get no closer than four until consecutive goals by senior attack Juliana Giello (Warwick, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 16-13 with just 1:30 left to play. The Bears, however, won the ensuing draw and thwarted any chance of a Wildcat comeback.

BSU junior netminder Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) made 13 saves to record her fifth win of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Cassidy O'Hara (Mashpee, Mass.) turned aside eight shots in the setback for the Wildcats.

Shots were even at 31 apiece, while Johnson & Wales finished with a slight 15-14 edge in draw controls.

The Bears open Little East Conference (LEC) play on Saturday afternoon when they host rival Westfield State University at one. The Wildcats travel to Lasell College on Saturday for a three o'clock Great Northeast Athletic Conference game with the Lasers.
