Women's Lacrosse Rolls to 19-8 Win over Eastern Connecticut

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Junior attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) tallied four goals and three assists and won a career-high 12 draws to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 19-8 non-conference victory over Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday afternoon at SpringFling 2019 in Englewood, Florida.

Ten different players scored for the Bears (3-0) led by a game-best five markers from senior midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.). Ettridge also contributed three ground balls, four draws and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) added a goal and three assists for the Bears, while senior midfielder Lisa Moynihan (Norwood, Mass.) and freshman attack Katherine Tracy (Marion, Mass.) tallied two goals apiece.

Sophomore Kelsi Brennan (Dedham, Mass.) and freshmen Jordan Brown (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Jacqueline DeLorey (Westwood, Mass.), Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.) and Madison Seeger (Clinton, Mass.) also scored for Bridgewater State. Brennan, Brown, Langton and Seeger each recorded their first collegiate goals.

Bridgewater State led 9-3 at the break and extended the lead to 11-4 after a pair of Ettridge goals in the opening minutes of the second half. After Eastern Connecticut cut the deficit to five (11-6), the Bears reeled off five straight goals, including back-to-back tallies by McDonough, to put the game out of reach. The final score of 19-8 marked BSU's biggest lead of the game.

Bridgewater finished with a decided 38-20 shot advantage and converted 5 of 8 attempts on the free position. The Bears also guaranteed themselves 16 more possessions in the game by amassing a whopping 23-6 edge in draw controls, with McDonough winning 12 of them.

BSU junior netminder Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) made five saves to record her third win of the season and 17th of her career.

Senior Michelina Pinto (Groton, Conn.) paced the Warriors with three goals and an assist to go along with four draws, while sophomore Sydney Hogan (Northford, Conn.) notched two goals and an assist and junior Trista Kijak (Windsor) found the back of the net twice. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Purick (Riverhead, N.Y.) turned aside 14 shots.

Both teams will play one more game at SpringFling 2019. The Bears take on Nazareth College on Wednesday afternoon at five, while Eastern Connecticut (0-5) meets Vassar College on Thursday afternoon at 4:30.

Notes: McDonough now has 99 assists in her career….Ettridge increased her career scoring total to 196 points.
