Women's Lacrosse Falls to Westfield, 19-7

WESTFIELD, Mass. --  The Westfield State University women's lacrosse team rolled to a 19-7 win over Bridgewater State University in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday at Alumni Field.

The Owls (15-2) set a school record for wins and clinched the outright Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) title with a perfect 7-0 mark in league play.

Westfield State will be the number one seed in next week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round game next Thursday night at seven.

Bridgewater State (11-6, 5-2 MASCAC) will be the number three seed in the tournament and will host #6 Salem State University a quarterfinal round game on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30.

Westfield got four goals and an assist from Samantha Coyle.

The game was tight for the opening 12 minutes, as Bridgewater's Gabby Reinold scored off a feed from Brooke Buckner to cut the Owls lead to 4-3 with 18:27 to play in the first half. From there, the Owls scored the next 11 goals to roll out to a 15-3 advantage at the 4:30 mark when Sydney Lambert scored an unassisted goal.

The Owls led 15-5 at the half and cruised to the 19-7 victory.

Lambert and Alexa Tonelli added three goals each for Westfield. Maria Woodall went the distance in goal, and made seven saves.

Bridgewater was led by three goals from Victoria McDonough and two from Elizabeth Ettridge. Netminder Hayley Barner turned aside nine shots in the setback.

The Owls held a 30-20 shot advantage, while the Bears finished with a slight 14-12 edge in draw controls. Lisa Moynihan led all players with seven draws, while Ettridge added five.
