BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior attack Gabby Reinold (Braintree, Mass.) scored a career-high five goals and sophomore attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) added four to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 15-6 victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth on Monday night at Swenson Field.
The Bears improve to 5-2 on the season, while the Corsairs fall to 4-2.
Junior attack Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) added two goals and an assist for Bridgewater, while junior attack Mackenzie Manning (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) checked in with a goal and an assist apiece. Senior midfielder Brooke Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.) dished out a game-best three assists.
BSU sophomore goalkeeper Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) turned aside nine shots to record her fifth win of the season.
The Bears dominated play over the first 30 minutes outscoring the Corsairs, 9-1, while holding a 17-8 shot advantage. Six different players scored for Bridgewater in the first half with Reinold leading the way with three goals and McDonough potting a pair.
The second half was more closely contested, but Bridgewater maintained a lead of at least seven goals throughout the period.
The Bears finished with a 29-23 shot advantage as well as a 14-9 edge in draw controls. McDonough registered eight of BSU's 14 draws.
Junior defender Lisa Moynihan (Norwood, Mass.) led Bridgewater's defensive effort with four caused turnovers to go along with three ground ball and four draws. Ettridge forced three turnovers and registered four ground balls.
Senior midfielder Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) paced UMD with a pair of goals, while senior defender Raquel Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) notched two assists. Junior netminder Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) made eight saves in the setback for the Corsairs.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday. The Bears travel to Western New England University for a four o'clock game with the Golden Bears, while the Corsairs entertain the Vikings of Salem State University at seven.
