Women's Lacrosse Posts 17-13 Win over Methodist at SpringFling 2018

ENGLEWOOD Fla. – Junior attack Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) scored a game-high six goals, and sophomore attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) notched three goals and an assist, to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 17-13 victory over Methodist University on Tuesday at SpringFling 2018 in Englewood, Florida.

The Bears improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Monarchs fall to 4-2. Methodist saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.

Bridgewater trailed 10-9 at the intermission and 12-9 with 22 minutes left to play in the second half. The Bears then reeled off six straight goals and outscored the Monarchs 8-1 over the final 22 minutes to come away with the 17-13 win.

Freshman midfielder Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) bookended the 6-0 run with a pair goals, while Ettridge scored twice during the spurt.

Bridgewater finished with a 27-22 shot advantage for the game, including a 15-5 edge in the second half. The Bears also won the draw control battle, 19-13, with Ettridge and junior defender Lisa Moynihan (Norwood, Mass.) corralling five draws each, while McDonough and senior midfielder Brooke Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.) notched three apiece.

Six of Bridgewater's 17 goals came on free position attempts as the Bears went 6-for-7 from the free position.

Hiller finished with two goals and an assist for Bridgewater State, while junior attack Mackenzie Manning (Hingham, Mass.) also registered two goals and an assist.

BSU sophomore goalkeeper Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) turned aside six shots to record her second win of the season. Senior netminder Molly O'Hara (Monroe, Conn.) also made six saves in the setback for Methodist.

Freshman attack Sydney Bonner (Winter Park, Fla.) scored five goals to lead the way for the Monarchs, while senior midfielder Madison Ronelli (Orlando, Fla.) checked in with three goals and an assist. Sophomore midfielder Monti Hendrix (Buford, Ga.) added two goals and pair of helpers, and junior midfielder Sarah Ewin (Frederick, Md.) found the back of the net twice. Hendrix led all players with eight draw controls.

With her six goals, Ettridge increased her career total to 96 as she closes in on the 100-goal milestone.

SpringFling 2018 continues for Bridgewater State on Thursday as the Bears will take on Emerson College at 5:00 PM.
