Women's Lacrosse Falls to Babson in Season-Opener, 18-5

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Babson College women's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with an 18-5 victory over Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

Nine different players scored for the Beavers led by junior attack Alexis Lenaghan (Hanover, Mass.) who tallied three goals to go along with four assists. Senior midfielder Julia Harrigan (Portsmouth, R.I.) added three goals and an assist for the visitors while senior attack Lyndsay Giroux (Westwood, Mass.) potted three goals. Sophomore midfielder Taylor Herrmann (Mahwah, N.J.), junior defender Olivia McCahan (Providence, R.I.) and sophomore attack Olivia Remley (Ridgewood, N.J.) each netted a pair of goal for Babson. Herrmann also dished out two assists, while McCahon notched one assist.

Junior attack Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) paced the host Bears with four goals, while sophomore attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) handed out three assists. Junior attack Mackenzie Manning (Hingham, Mass.) also scored for Bridgewater State. The goal marked her first in a BSU uniform.

Babson led 13-3 at the break and tallied the first three goals of the second half to put the game well out of reach.

Sophomore Olivia Phelan (Wilton, Conn.) and freshman Carolyn Fligor (Weston, Mass.) combined to make seven saves in between the pipes for Beavers with Phelan picking up the win. Sophomore netminder Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) turned aside eight shots in the setback.

Babson held a 34-16 shot advantage as well as a 15-8 edge in draw controls. Lenaghan led all players with five draw controls.

In upcoming action, the Bears (0-1) host Mount Holyoke College next Saturday at noon while the Beavers (1-0) entertain Plymouth State University on Wednesday afternoon at four.
