Lynch, Ettridge Lead Women's Lacrosse to 14-7 MASCAC Win over Salem

SALEM, Mass. -- Senior Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) scored five goals and sophomore Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) tallied three goals and three assists to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over Salem State University on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Bears improve to 10-6 on the season and remain unbeaten in MASCAC play with a perfect 6-0 conference mark. The Vikings fall to 4-11 overall and 2-4 in the MASCAC.

Lynch potted four of her game-high five goals in the first half as Bridgewater State held a 9-3 lead at the break.

Lynch opened with back-to-back scores before junior Gabby Reinold (Braintree, Mass.) gave the Bears a 3-0 lead five minutes into the game. Junior Courtney Smith (Peabody, Mass.) added the first of her three first half tallies at the 24:28 mark, but BSU freshman Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) quickly responded, the first of three unanswered goals by the Bears, as they built a 6-1 lead.

Following back-to-back goals by Lynch, Smith cut the deficit to 6-2, but once again Bridgewater State received goals from senior Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) and Ettridge to push the lead to 8-2. Smith and Ettridge exchanged goals late as the Bears carried a six-goal advantage into halftime.

Senior Dailey Hancock (Stoughton, Mass.) scored the first of her two second half goals early in the stanza, cutting the lead to 9-4. Junior Rebecca McGlone (Salem, Conn.) added a score for Bridgewater State before senior Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) and Hancock brought the deficit to five, 11-6, with 7:16 remaining.

Renauld got one back for the Bears before Smith, who finished with five points, potted her fourth goal of the game. Ettridge and McDonough added late goals for Bridgewater State, making the final 14-7.

Senior Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) made five saves in 30 minutes of action as she recorded her eighth win of the season and 38th of her career. Forman tied the Bears' all-time record for career wins held by Meghan Griffin (2008-2010).

Freshman Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) played the second half and also made five stops between the pipes for the Bears.

Freshman Karlie McLear (Paxton, Mass.) recorded 16 saves in the loss for the Vikings.

Bridgewater State held a decided 41-25 shot advantage.

The Bears are currently tied for first in the MASCAC standings along with Westfield State University. The two teams will meet at Swenson Field on Saturday night at seven in the season-finale with the conference regular season title on the line.

Notes: Ettridge's assist on Reinold's goal early in the first half marked her 100th career point.
