BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 13-3 victory over Bridgewater State University on Thursday night at Swenson Field.
The Panthers even their 2017 record at 2-2 with the win, while the host Bears fall to 5-6.
Plymouth scored the first ten goals of the game and led 10-0 at the intermission.
Bridgewater tallied the first three goals of the second half to cut the deficit to 10-3, but that would be all the scoring the Bears could muster.
Seven different players scored for Plymouth State. Junior attack Megan Tingley (Natick, Mass.) led the way with three goals and a pair of assists, while senior midfielder Caroline Vonachen (Framingham, Mass.) also scored three times. Sophomore midfielder Kimmie Zuccaro (Townsend, Mass.) added two goals and two assists, and junior attack Sam Sullivan (Canton, Mass.) contributed two goals and a helper.
Senior netminder Meg Brault (South Windsor, Conn.) made three saves to record her second win of the season.
BSU senior goaltender Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) was very busy between the pipes as she faced 32 shots and made 13 saves. Forman became the Bears' all-time saves leader as she now has 522 for her career. She eclipsed the previous school mark of 512 saves held by Jo-Ellen Murgo (1998-2000).
The Panthers outshot the Bears by a decided margin of 34-14. Ground balls were even at ten apiece, while Plymouth held a slight 9-8 advantage in draw controls.
Senior midfielder Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) scored twice for Bridgewater and freshman attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) notched a goal and an assist.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday. The Bears host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Framingham State University at noon, while the Panthers travel to Little East Conference (LEC) foe UMass Dartmouth for a one o'clock game with the Corsairs.
