Renauld Leads Women's Lacrosse to 24-11 Win Over MCLA

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior attack Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) scored eight goals, including the 200th of her career, to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 24-11 victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe MCLA on Monday evening at Swenson Field.

The game marked the MASCAC opener for both teams as the Bears improve to 5-5 (1-0 MASCAC) on the season, while the visiting Trailblazers fall to 3-4 (0-1 MASCAC).

Renauld's fifth goal of the game marked her milestone tally as she became just the fifth player in program history to reach the 200-goal plateau. Renauld also added an assist for a total of nine points on the evening.

Eight different players scored for the Bears who jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. Bridgewater led 14-5 at the break and got up by as many as 15 goals (23-8) in the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.), freshman attack Hayley White (Dracut, Mass.) and freshman attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) all contributed six points for Bridgewater State. Ettridge and White tallied three goals and three assists apiece, while McDonough potted a pair of goals to go along with four helpers.

Senior midfielder Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) also scored three goals for the Bears, while junior midfielder Rebecca McGlone (Salem, Conn.) registered two goals and two assists and junior midfielder Brooke Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.) found the back of the net twice.

Senior netminder Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) earned her fourth win of the season recording three saves in 30 minutes of action. Freshman goalkeeper Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) turned aside four shots in relief.

For the Trailblazers, junior attack Mackenzie Cutler (East Amherst, N.Y.) led the way with five goals and senior attack Natalie Caney (Belchertown, Mass.) tallied four goals and a game-high six ground balls. Freshman midfielder Kim Granito (Glenmont, N.Y.) notched two goals and an assist to go along with a game-best 11 draw controls.

Freshman Julie Coughlin (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and sophomore Zoe Elwell (Clifton Park, N.Y.) made six saves apiece between the pipes for the visitors.

The Bears held a decided 41-20 shot advantage as well as a 13-9 edge in ground balls. Draw controls were 20-15 in favor of MCLA.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater State plays entertains non-conference foe Plymouth State University on Wednesday night at seven. MCLA hosts MASCAC rival Fitchburg State University on Saturday afternoon at one.

Notes: Renauld now has 294 points for her career as she is tied for sixth on the Bears' all-time scoring list. Former standout Katie DeMaio also recorded 294 points from 2007 to 2010.
