BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse remained unbeaten on the season as the Bears downed visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 14-4, on Tuesday evening at Swenson Field.
The Bears improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Warriors fall to 2-4.
Bridgewater scored the first four goals of the game and held a commanding 12-1 lead at the intermission. Junior midfielder Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) opened the second half scoring to give the hosts their biggest lead of the game at 13-1. The Bears slowed the pace down for the remainder of the contest as they breezed to the non-conference victory.
Sophomore attack Riley Cachelin (Westwood, Mass.), the Bears leading point producer, led all scorers with three goals and three assists, while junior attack Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) notched three goals and a pair of helpers. Clancy had a terrific all-around game as she finished with three goals and an assist to go along with five ground balls, three controlled draws and one caused turnover.
Also contributing to the Bears' balanced scoring attack were freshman midfielder Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) and seniors Jill Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) and Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, Mass.). Geary notched a goal and an assist in addition to a game-high eight draws and two caused turnovers. Caramello found the back of the net twice, while Farland tallied a goal to along with five ground balls. Geary entered the game ranked fifth in all of Division III with 8.67 draw controls per game.
BSU sophomore netminder Jessica Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) was terrific between the pipes as she turned aside eight shots.
Junior attack Erin Conn (Moriches, N.Y.) paced the visitors with a pair of goals, while classmate Ashley Wolk (Barrington, R.I.) tallied four draws, two ground balls and two caused turnovers to go along with an assists. Junior Haley Heslin (Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Hannah Keiser (Danbury, Conn.) recorded three saves apiece as they each played a half.
In upcoming action, the Bears entertain the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday evening at six. The Warriors travel to Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon for a one o'clock game with the Anchorwomen.
