Erin Quimby Highlight Bears' All-NEWLA Selections

2009 NEWLA All-Conference Team
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College sophomore defender Erin Quimby has been selected as the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Defensive Player of the Year in all-conference voting results released by NEWLA Director of Media Relations, Robb Modica. Quimby highlights BSC's five All-NEWLA honorees.
Joining Quimby on the All-NEWLA First Team are junior midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA), junior attack Katie DeMaio and sophomore attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA). The Bears lone second team selection is sophomore midfielder Courtney Lennon (Medfield, MA).
Quimby, a two-time NEWLA Defensive Player of the Week, tallied 38 ground balls, 29 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers in 15 games this season. She also added five goals and five assists for ten points. Quimby ranked fifth in the conference in caused turnovers per game with 1.33.
Manning, who was named to the all-conference first team for the second straight year, notched her second consecutive 100-point season as she finished with 61 goals and 39 assists. She also recording 62 ground balls, 58 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers. Manning ranked third in the NEWLA in assists, fourth in scoring, ground balls and draw controls, and tenth in goals.
DeMaio, also a two-time NEWLA First Team selection, scored 70 goals and added 27 assist for 97 points. She ranked fifth in the conference in goals, seventh in scoring and eighth in assists.
Jones, the 2008 NEWLA Rookie of the Year, had a phenomenal sophomore campaign as she broke her own school record for goals with 71. She also added 31 assists for a total of 102 points, and registered 25 ground balls and 52 draw controls. The 102 points is second only to Manning's 105-point season of 2008 in the BSC record books. Jones finished third in the conference in scoring, fourth in goals and fifth in both assists and draw controls.
Lennon tallied 45 goals and 28 assists for 73 points in2009. She also added 33 ground balls, 33 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. Lennon ranked seventh in the NEWLA in assists with 1.56 per game.
Bridgewater State wrapped up the season with an overall record of 14-4 with a perfect 7-0 mark in NEWLA play. The Bears captured both the NEWLA regular season and tournament titles for the second straight year and fourth time overall. BSC has won 18 straight games against NEWLA opponents since rejoining the Alliance prior to the start of the 2008 season.
Manning ranks second all-time at Bridgewater State in points (264) and assists (99). She is also third in goals (165). DeMaio ranks third in assists (63) and fourth in both goals (157) and points (220). Jones is sixth all-time at BSC in goals (138) and points (180), while Lennon is fifth in assists (57).
