Jenny Jones Named NEWLA Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - For the second straight week, Bridgewater State College sophomore attack Jenny Jones has been named the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Player of the Week.
Jones, who hails from Framingham, Massachusetts, tallied 14 goals and three assists for 17 points to help the Bears capture their second straight NEWLA Tournament title and fourth overall. She also notched three ground balls and nine draw controls.
Jones registered five goals and three assists to go along with three ground balls and six draws in BSC's 23-10 semifinal win over Worcester State. She then scored nine goals and added three draws in the Bears' 19-16 championship game win over Castleton State.
With her nine-goal effort against Castleton, Jones set the BSC single-season goal scoring mark with 71. She broke her own record of 67 goals which was set just last season.
In 18 games this season, Jones tallied a team-leading 102 points as she recorded 31 assists to go along with her 71 goals. The 102 points is the second highest single-season total in BSC women's lacrosse history. Jones also finished the year with 25 ground balls and 52 draw controls.
In just two seasons at BSC, Jones already has 138 goals and 42 assists to her credit for a total of 180 points. She ranks sixth all-time at Bridgewater in both goals and scoring.
Bridgewater State wrapped up the 2009 campaign with an overall record of 14-4. Since rejoining the NEWLA prior to the start of the 2008 season, the Bears have won 18 straight games against conference opponents.
