DeMaio Leads Women's Lacrosse to 22-2 Win over RIC

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Sophomore attack Katie DeMaio scored five goals and added three assists to lead the Bridgewater State College women's lacrosse team to a 22-2 victory over Rhode Island College this afternoon in Bridgewater.

With the win BSC improves to 11-4 on the season as the Bears have now won six of their last seven game.  RIC dips to 3-12 overall.

Bridgewater dominated play from start to finish as the Bears tallied the first six goals of the game with DeMaio potting three of them. BSC took a 13-2 lead into the half and outscored the Anchorwomen 9-0 in the final stanza.

Freshman attack Courtney Lennon (Medfield, MA) added four goals and two assists for the Bears, while freshman attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) chipped in with four goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Alison Gugliotta (Norwood, MA) scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others, while senior midfielder Lauryn Serratore (Norwood, MA) and freshman attack Caitlin Young (Holden, MA) added two goals apiece.

Sophomore midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA) finished with two goals and an assist as she now has 40 goals and 40 assists on the season.  She needs seven assists to equal Paula Habel's BSC single-season mark of 47. Her 80 points is also the fifth highest total in team history.

The Bears outshot RIC by a margin of 43-11 and held an 18-8 advantage in draw controls.  Serratore paced the Bears with five draws, while junior defender Sarah Pimental (Acushnet, MA) registered four and Manning added three.

Senior midfielder Adrienne Berkland (Sharon, MA) put together a solid performance on the defensive end for Bridgewater as she caused five turnovers and recorded three ground balls. 

Sophomore goaltender Meghan Griffin (Billerica, MA) played the first 51 minutes and registered five saves to pick up her sixth win of the season.  Freshman Katie Weber (Arlington, MA) faced two shots in the final nine minutes and stopped both of them.

RIC freshman keeper Hilary Switzer (Woonsocket, RI) turned aside 13 shots to lead the way for the Anchorwomen. Freshman attack Suany Almonte (Warwick, RI) and senior midfielder Kerry McDevitt (Jamestown, RI) were RIC's lone goal scorers.

Bridgewater State wraps up the regular season on Saturday afternoon as the Bears host Plymouth State University at 1 PM.  RIC travels to Eastern Connecticut State University for a one o'clock Little East Conference contest with the Warriors.
