Women's Lacrosse Drops 16-13 Decison to ECSU

MANSFIELD, Conn. - The Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team defeated Bridgewater State College, 16-13, this afternoon in a non-conference match from Mansfield, Connecticut.

Senior attack Lily Anderson (Portland, ME) equaled her career high by scoring five goals for the second straight game to lead the Warriors.

In a battle of teams who are unbeaten in their respective conferences, Eastern (8-6) broke from a 7-6 halftime lead to score the first seven goals in the first eight minutes of the second and move out to a 14-6 lead.

Bridgewater (10-4) answered with five in a row - two from freshman attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) and two from senior midfielder Lauryn Serratore (Norwood, MA) to cut the margin to three, 14-11, with just over 13 minutes left.

At that point, Anderson scored her fifth goal of the match and first-year sophomore Brooke Wayte (Bellport, NY) her third to make it 16-11 with ten minutes left.

The win is the sixth straight for Eastern over Bridgewater. Eastern won last year's Little East  Conference title and participated in its second NCAA tournament in three years. Bridgewater competed in the ECAC New England Division III tournament.

Sophomore midfielder Taylor MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, MA) had a goal and three assists, and six ground balls for Eastern. She also caused three turnovers and won three draws.  Junior defender Sara Barrett (Bourne, MA) added a goal and assist, picked up four ground balls and caused four turnovers.

Serratore led the Bears with four goals and also won seven draws and four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
