Women's Lacrosse Opens Season with 16-12 Win over UNE

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Led by a five-goal performance from sophomore midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA), the Bridgewater State College women's lacrosse team opened the 2008 season in the win column with a 16-12 victory over the University of New England on Friday evening in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Manning also added an assist for a six-point performance.  Senior midfielder Lauryn Serratore (Norwood, MA) added two goals and an assist, while sophomore oaltender Meghan Griffin (Billerica, MA) turned aside eight shots to record her first win in a BSC uniform.

Three freshmen notched their first collegiate goals with Courtney Lennon (Medfield, MA) leading the way with three goals and an assist.  Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) tallied a goal and an assist, while Bethany Bush (Littleton, MA) also found the back of the net.  

Sophomore midfielder Mallory Long (Lewiston, ME) tallied a team-high three goals for the Nor'easters of UNE.  Freshman netminder Tara Geraghty (Barrington, RI) registered seven saves.

BSC (1-0) will take on Allegheny College on Monday, March 17 at 5 PM in West Palm Beach. The Bears will then open the NEWLA schedule on Saturday, March 22nd at home versus Thomas College.   

The Nor'easters (1-2) return to Maine to face St. Joseph's College in their home-opener on Tuesday, March 18th.  The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Biddeford but may be moved to Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland, depending on this weekend's weather.
