Jordyn Lako Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman guard Jordyn Lako has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Attleboro, Massachusetts, Lako averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, three assists, 3.3 steals and 1.3 blocked shots in three games for the Bears last week while shooting 45% (9-20) from the floor and 40% (4-10) from behind the arc.

Lako helped the Bears posted a 1-1 mark at the BSU Cave Classic Tip-Off Tournament this past weekend. She tallied four points, four rebounds, three assists and five steals in a 78-57 win over Salve Regina University, and a career-high 18 points to go along with three caroms, four assists, a steal and three blocked shots in an 85-73 championship game loss to #6 Bowdoin College.

Earlier in the week, Lako notched four points, four boards, two assists and four steals in a 66-62 setback to UMass Dartmouth.

Through four games this season, Lako is averaging eight points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, three steals and 1.3 blocked shots, She is also shooting 41% (11-27) from the floor, 33% (4-12) from three-point range and 75% (6-8) at the free throw line.

Lako is tied for second in the MASCAC in steals and ranks third among the conference leaders in blocks.

The BSU women's basketball team is currently 1-3 on the young season. The Bears entertain Rhode Island College on Tuesday evening at 5:30.
