Women's Basketball Rolls to 75-43 Win over Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Kailyn Aguiar (Acushnet, Mass.) posted her third double-double of the season as she notched 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's basketball team to a 75-43 non-conference victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening at Tansey Gymnasium.

The Bears improve to 3-6 on the season while the host Leopards fall to 0-10.

Aguiar connected on 7 of 10 field goal attempts and six of her 12 boards came on the offensive glass. She also recorded a game-best five steals.

BSU junior forward Kayla Carter (Beverly, Mass.) scored a game and season-high 18 points and also grabbed six boards. Carter went 6-for-10 from the floor and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.

The Bears used an 11-0 run, highlighted by seven points from Aguiar, to open up a 15-4 lead with 2:30 remaining in the first quarter. After a Wentworth basket, Bridgewater scored the final five points of the period including a Arcidiacono three-pointer, as the Bears held a 20-6 lead at the end of one.

The Bears shot 58.8% (10-17) in the second frame and limited the Leopards to 4-of-16 shooting (25%) as they took a decided 41-17 advantage into halftime.

Aguiar scored 11 of her 16 points in the first half.

Bridgewater continued to build onto its lead in the second half and got up by as many as 34 points (75-41) late in the fourth quarter before coming away with the 75-43 victory.

Sophomore forward Stephanie Mini (Topsfield, Mass.) led the Leopard offense with 15 points, while senior forward Michelle McCloskey (Madison, Conn.) notched eight points and a team-leading eight rebounds.

The Bears shot 51% (30-59) for the game and held a 42-28 rebounding advantage. The Leopards connected on just 33% (18-55) of their field goal attempts. The BSU bench, led by six points from sophomore forward Destiny Fitzgerald (Medford, Mass.) and five from freshman guard Olivia Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.), outscored the Wentworth reserves, 26-4.

Wentworth wraps up the first semester with a 2:30 p.m. non-conference game on Saturday at Mitchell College. Bridgewater State is off until Saturday, December 29th (5:00 PM) as the Bears take on host Western Connecticut State University in the semifinal round of the Hat City Tournament.
