Destiny Fitzgerald Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman forward Destiny Fitzgerald has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Fitzgerald tallied a career-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds and a blocked shot in the Bears’ 66-55 setback to Rhode Island College last week. The Medford, Massachusetts product also connected on 9-of-15 field goal attempts (60%) and was 2-for-2 from the free throw line.

In three games this season, Fitzgerald is averaging 13.7 points, seven rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots per game. She is also shooting 51% (19-37) from the floor and 75% (3-4) at the charity stripe.

Fitzgerald currently leads the MASCAC in blocked shots. She also ranks fourth in the conference in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage and seventh in rebounding.

The BSU women’s basketball team is presently 1-2 on the young season. The Bears entertain the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday night at seven.
