Destiny Fitzgerald Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University freshman forward Destiny Fitzgerald has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Fitzgerald averaged 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and one steal in three games for the Bears last week. The Medford, Massachusetts product also shot 77% (10-13) at the free throw line.

This past weekend at the Williams College Invitational, Fitzgerald tallied 15 points, four rebounds and two blocked shots in a 58-42 setback to host Williams, and notched 12 points, seven boards, an assist and a block in a 64-44 loss to #2 ranked Tufts University. Earlier in the week, Fitzgerald registered five points and six rebounds in an 83-51 setback to UMass Dartmouth.

In six games this season, Fitzgerald is averaging 12.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game while shooting 48% (30-62) from the floor and 77% (13-17) at the charity stripe. She currently ranks fourth in the MASCAC in both field goal percentage and blocks, as well as sixth in free throw percentage, eighth in scoring and ninth in rebounding.

The BSU women’s basketball team is presently 1-5 on the young season. The Bears travel to Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday night for a seven o’clock game with the Wildcats.
