Boutilette, Cuddihy Lead Women's Hoops to 66-57 Win over Union

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Freshman forward Megan Boutilette (Charlton, Mass.) posted a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds, and senior guard Corey Cuddihy (Scituate, Mass.) led all players with 14 points, as the Bridgewater State University women's basketball team posted a 66-57 non-conference victory over Union College on Wednesday evening in Bridgewater.

The host Bears remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 7-0.  It marks the best start for the Bears since the 1983-1984 squad won their first 17 games en route to a 22-5 record.  Union falls to 1-3 with the loss.

The game was not as close as the final score. The Bears got up by as much as 29 points on three different occasions in the second half, including a 64-35 advantage with just 5:17 remaining in the contest.  Union outscored Bridgewater 22-2 over the final five minutes with the Bears' starters and key reserves all on the bench.

Bridgewater played stifling defense recording 17 steals which led to 29 Union turnovers. The visiting Dutchwomen shot 37% (23-62) from the floor including just 3 of 19 (16%) from three-point range.  Union also missed eight of their first nine free throw attempts before recovering with a 7-for-9 performance from the charity stripe over the final five minutes.

The double-double for Boutilette was her team-leading third of the season.  Four rebounds came off the offensive glass and she also added two assists and a pair of steals.  Cuddihy knocked down 4 of 7 three-point field goals attempts, grabbed three caroms and dished out two assists.  Sophomore forward Michaela Cosby (Walpole, Mass.) chipped in with eight points, two rebounds and two steals, while junior forward Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) notched five points, six boards and three steals.

Senior forward Lauren McCormick (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) paced the visitors with nine points and five rebounds, while senior forward Lauren Hennessey (Burlington, Mass.) added eight points, six boards and three steals.

Bridgewater will host Endicott College on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM.  Union will entertain Western New England College on Saturday at one.
