DePina, Cuddihy Named to All-MASCAC Team

2008-2009 All-MASCAC Women's Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College freshman forward Shelly DePina and sophomore guard Corey Cuddihy have been selected to the 2008-2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball All-Conference Team in voting conducted by the league's coaches.

DePina earned first team honors as she averaged 10.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals for the season while shooting 47.5% from the floor.  The New Bedford, Massachusetts native currently ranks sixth in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and blocked shots (14), seventh in rebounding, ninth in scoring and is tied for fourth in steals.

DePina, who started each of the last 16 games for the Bears, was the only member of the team this season to be chosen as the MASCAC Player of the Week as she took home the honor back on February 2nd

Cuddihy was voted to the second team as she averaged 13.8 points and 2.6 assists while shooting 72.9% from the free throw line and 35.8% from three-point range.  The Scituate, Massachusetts native presently leads the conference in made three-pointers with 58.  She also ranks second in three-point field goal percentage, third in scoring and free throw percentage, and eighth in assists.

Cuddihy set the BSC single-season school marks for three-point field goals made and attempted (162) this year. In two seasons at Bridgewater she has already knocked down 91 three-pointers and is on pace to shatter the school record of 116 set by Lora O'Connell (1998-2002).

The BSC women's basketball team posted a record of 14-11 this season with a 7-5 mark in conference play.  Seeded third at the MASCAC Tournament, the Bears ended the season with a 61-55 first round loss to Salem State.
