Bridgett Casey Named MASCAC Coach of the Year

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College head women's basketball coach Bridgett Casey has been selected as the 2007-2008 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Coach of the Year in all-conference voting results released by league commissioner Angela Baumann.

Casey, in her 11th season at the helm as coach of the Bears, guided BSC to the fifth 20-win season in the team's history.  Bridgewater also captured the program's first MASCAC regular season title since the 1985-86 season, as well as their first ever MASCAC Tournament championship.  BSC advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth time in school history as the Bears made their first appearance since 1986.

Casey currently has a career coaching record of 154-129 (.544) and a 78-54 (.591) regular season mark against MASCAC opponents. This season she led the Bears to a 22-5 record and an 11-1 mark in the conference. BSC had an impressive 14-2 record at the Tinsley Center, at one point winning 14 straight games at home.

Four BSC women's basketball players garnered all-conference honors this season under the guidance of Coach Casey. Sister's Caitlin Feeney and Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) were selected to the All-MASCAC First Team while Colleen was also named a Jostens Trophy finalist and the MASCAC Player of the Year. Senior guards Justine Farroba (North Attleboro, MA) and Melissa Murphy (Rockland, MA) were also tabbed as second team selections.

Under Casey, the Bears have posted double-digit win totals in all but one of her 11 seasons as head coach. Her 20-win total is her second in the last three years. In 2005-2006, Casey also led the team to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III New England Women's Basketball Tournament as the team posted a record of 20-8.
