Women's Basketball Powers Past Westfield State, 80-57

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Senior center Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) posted game highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds to power Bridgewater State College to an 80-57 victory over Westfield State in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opener.

The Bears are 9-3 overall while Westfield drops to 5-8.

A big scoring surge in the final four minutes of the first half sparked the Bears. Leading 32-30, the Bears scored 12 unanswered points and led at halftime, 48-32.

For Feeney, it was her 11th double-double of the season.  She also increased her career scoring total to 978 points as she closes in on the 1,000-point milestone.

Feeney will have a chance to reach the milestone at home as the Bears host UMass-Boston on Thursday at 6 PM followed by MASCAC rival Framingham State on Saturday at noon. 

Senior guard Justine Farroba (North Attleboro, MA) was the only other player in double figures in the Bears' balanced attack as she finished with 13 points to go along with 4 assists and 3 steals.

Junior Andrea Wasuk (Lenox, MA) led Westfield with 13 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Lauren Sylvain (Hadley, MA) tallied 10 points.
