Women's Hoops Knocks Off RIC, 73-60

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Senior forward Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) posted her third double-double of the season with 21 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Bridgewater State College women's basketball team to a 73-60 win over Rhode Island College in non-conference women's basketball action this evening from the Tinsley Center.

With the win, the Bears improve their season record to 2-1 while RIC dips to 1-2 on the year. The Bears took a 31-18 advantage into the locker room and used a 10-0 run early in the second half to balloon the lead 21 points at 41-20. Rhode Island chipped away very late in the second half but did not make a serious threat.

Feeney, who connected on 9 of 15 field goals for the game, almost had a double-double at the half as she went into the locker room with 16 points and 9 boards.  Through three games this season she is averaging 16.7 points, 14.0 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game.

Senior guard Justine Farroba (North Attleboro, MA) also played very well for the Bears as she scored a season-high 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting including 4-for-7 from three point range.  Farroba also added 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.

Also scoring in double figures for the Bears was senior guard Caitlin Feeney (Providence, RI) who scored 17 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists.  Eleven of Feeney's 17 points came from the free throw line in the second half alone.

Senior guard Melissa Murphy (Rockland, MA) added 7 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

Bridgewater dominated the boards in this one as the Bears out-rebounded the Anchorwomen by a margin of 53 to 35 including a 24-8 advantage on the offensive glass.

RIC was led by junior guard Michelle McNamee (Cranston, RI) who poured in 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting.  Fifteen of her team-high 19 points came in the second half alone.

Bridgewater State will be back in action on Monday, November 26th as the Bears travel to Curry College for a 7 o'clock game with the Colonels. RIC host Wellesley College at 7 PM on Tuesday, November 27th.
