Salve Earns BSC Tip-Off Title with 66-62 Win over Wentworth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - In women's college basketball action this afternoon, Salve Regina University captured the 2007 BSC Subway Tip-Off Classic championship with a 66-62 victory over Wentworth in the tournament title game.  Earlier in the day, the host Bears of Bridgewater State knocked off Norwich University by a score 69-57 in the consolation game.

Senior center Allison Moen (Yonkers, NY) earned tournament MVP honors for Salve as she averaged 18.5 rebounds and 12.5 rebounds while also recording 5 blocked shots.  Moen tied the BSC Tip-Off Classic record for made field goals with 15.  In the championship game, Moen scored 18 points on 8 of 10 shooting while also pulling down 8 boards.

Also earning all-tournament honors for Salve was senior forward Kristen Stone (West Roxbury, MA) who posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Wentworth.

Wentworth was led by all-tournament selections Emily Cring (Cicero, NY) and Kirsten Vallone (Avon, NY).  A senior forward, Cring poured in 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 3 steals as she recorded her second straight double-double.  Vallone, a freshman forward, averaged 11.5 points and 7.0 rebounds at the tournament.

In the consolation game, senior forward Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) had a monster game in the Bears 69-57 win over Norwich as she tallied 17 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a tournament record 7 blocked shots.  Feeney was also named to the all-tournament team as she averaged 14.5 points and 12.0 rebounds, and set tournament records for blocked shots (11) and defensive rebounds (21).

Senior guard Caitlin Feeney (Providence, RI) also played well for the Bears as she scored 16 points to go along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.  BSC had four players in double figures with senior guards Melissa Murphy (Rockland, MA) and Justine Farroba (North Attleboro, MA) chipping in with 12 and 10 points respectively.

After taking a slim two-point lead (27-25) into the locker room, the Bears responded with a solid performance in the second half to come away with the 12-point win.  Through the first 60 minutes of the tournament, BSC shot just 29.6% (29-for-98) from the floor including a dismal 4 of 31 from three-point range.  In the second half against Norwich, BSC connected on 7 of 11 three point attempts and shot 47% from the floor.

Leading the way for the Norwich Cadets was all-tournament selection Ally Daniels (Concord, NH).  A sophomore guard, Daniels scored 15 points and added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in the loss to BSC.  The Cadets did a nice job on the boards as they pulled down 55 rebounds including 24 off the offensive glass.

The host Bears will be back in action on Tuesday night as they welcome the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College to the Tinsley Center.  Tip-Off is slated for 6 PM.
