Natalie Sorrenti Named MASCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior righthander Natalie Sorrenti has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Softball Pitcher of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Sorrenti went 1-2 in the circle with three complete games in three starts for the Bears last week at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Bridgewater, Massachusetts product posted a 1.42 earned run average and fanned 13 batters with just two walks in 19 1/3 innings of work.

Sorrenti allowed one run on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts in a 5-1 win over Coast Guard Academy. She also gave up just two unearned runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in a 2-1 setback to SUNY Potsdam, and four runs (three earned) on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a 4-2 loss to Simpson College.

In five appearances this season, including four starts, Sorrenti is 2-2 with three complete games. She currently sports a 2.49 ERA with 18 strikeouts and just four walks over 25 1/3 innings. She leads the MASCAC in strikeouts and is tied for second in wins, complete games and starts. She is also third among the conference leaders in ERA and fourth in innings pitched.

In 19 appearances (16 starts) over her first two seasons at Bridgewater State, Sorrenti is 11-6 in the circle with 14 complete games and a pair of shutouts. She also has a career 2.15 ERA with 60 strikeouts and just 13 walks in 104 1/3 innings of work.

The BSU softball team is currently 2-3 on the season. The Bears take on Carroll University this afternoon at 1:45. Following an off day, the Florida trip will continue on Wednesday with a pair of games against the University of Scranton (1:30 PM) and SUNY Potsdam (4:00 PM).
