Jenny Heller Named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior shortstop Jenny Heller has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Softball Player of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Heller batted .550 (11-20) with three doubles, a walk, four stolen bases, seven runs scored and seven RBI in a 5-1 week for the Bears. The Taunton, Massachusetts product also posted a .571 on base percentage and a .700 slugging percentage, and recorded at least one hit in all six games on the week as she extended her hitting streak to 13 games.

Heller went 5-for-7 with a pair of doubles, four runs and three RBI in a MASCAC sweep of MCLA, and was 4-for-6 at the plate with a double, a walk, three stolen bases, two runs and four RBI in a conference sweep of Westfield State University. She also went 2-for-7 with a stolen base and run scored in a split with UMass Dartmouth.

Through 37 games this season, Heller is batting .397 (48-121) with three home runs, seven doubles, nine walks, 22 runs scored and 21 RBI. She has also stolen six bases.

Heller currently ranks third in the MASCAC in hits, fifth in batting average and ninth in slugging percentage (.529). She is also tied for third among the conference leaders in home runs and tied for sixth in stolen bases.

The BSU softball team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 18-19 including a 12-2 mark in the MASCAC as the Bears captured a share of the conference regular season title. It marks the program’s 26th MASCAC crown and first since 2014.

Bridgewater State is the top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host the double-elimination portion of the tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
