Shannon Grindle Named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior first baseman Shannon Grindle has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Softball Player of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Grindle batted .636 (7-for-11) with a double, a run scored and two RBI in the Bears' first four games of the season at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida this past weekend. The Halifax, Massachusetts product also walked twice as she posted a .692 on-base percentage.

Grindle went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in a 9-5 season-opening win over Roger Williams University. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate in a 9-0 loss to Juniata, 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a 4-2 setback to Catholic University, and walked twice in a 9-3 loss to Washington College.

Including this morning's 5-1 victory over Coast Guard Academy, Grindle is currently batting .571 (8-14) on the young season with a home run, a double, three walks, two runs scored and five runs batted in.

In 74 games over her first three seasons at Bridgewater State, Grindle has a career batting average of .394 (93-236) with 12 home runs, 20 doubles, 39 walks, 43 runs scored and 73 RBI. She is also sporting a career .631 slugging percentage and a .480 on base percentage.

The BSU softball team is currently 2-3 on the season. The Bears take on Carroll University this afternoon at 1:45. Following an off day, the Florida trip will continue on Wednesday with a pair of games against the University of Scranton (1:30 PM) and SUNY Potsdam (4:00 PM).
