Shannon Grindle Named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

BRIIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore first baseman Shannon Grindle has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player of the Week.

Grindle batted .520 (13-25) with three home runs, two doubles, four walks, 11 runs batted in and five runs scored in eight games for the Bears last week at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Halifax, Massachusetts product also posted a .960 slugging percentage and a .586 on base percentage.

Grindle recorded four multi-hit games including a trio of three-hit games during the Bears' Florida swing. She went 3-for-3 with a double, home run and six RBI in a 13-2 season-opening win over Johnson State College, and was 3-for-3 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored in an 8-6 setback to Carthage College. Grindle also banged out three hits in four at bats as the Bears dropped a 7-4 decision to the University of Mount Union, and went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in a 6-5 loss to Concordia University.

In 43 games over her first two seasons at Bridgewater State, Grindle has a career batting average of .392 (56-143) with five home runs, 12 doubles, 45 RBI and 20 runs scored. She also currently sports a .580 slugging percentage as well as a .436 on base percentage.

The BSU softball team is currently 3-7 on the young season. Bridgewater's doubleheader on Friday versus Clark University has been postponed due to the impending winter storm.
